Spicy Garlic Tofu

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions:

  • Drain and press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove any excess water. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.

  • In a shallow dish, combine the cornstarch and all-purpose flour. Dredge the tofu cubes in the mixture, making sure to coat each piece evenly.

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes to the pan and fry for about 5 minutes on each side, or until crispy and golden brown. Remove the tofu from the pan and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

  • In a small bowl, mix together the sesame oil, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, sugar, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.

  • In the same pan, over medium heat, add the marinade and bring to a simmer. Add the tofu cubes back to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the tofu is heated through.

  • Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Enjoy your Spicy Garlic Tofu as a side dish or as a main course with steamed rice or quinoa. You can adjust the spiciness level by adding more or less red pepper flakes according to your taste.
